The Legend of Roro Jonggrang

The legend of Roro Jonggrang tells the story of a mighty king who wanted to build thousands of temples in one night. He made a deal with a demon to complete this impossible task, but as dawn approached, the villagers tried to outsmart the demon by installing their own lights to make it look like the sun was rising. The demon knew he had been deceived and immediately lost his temper to take revenge. He asked the king to sacrifice a thousand human souls, and the king's daughter-in-law, Roro Jonggrang, was chosen as the thousandth sacrifice. Roro Jonggrang tricked the demon on one last quest before he could take her as a sacrifice. She asked him to build a well with his bare hands, and as he worked tirelessly, the villagers lit fires and made noise as if dawn had come. The demon, tricked again, fled, leaving the unfinished well. Edited by: Hafizt Joseph  Ilham Al Fachri  Noval
