Lutung Kasarung

The Story of Lutung Kasarung told the story of a princess named Purbasari who was born with a wonderful voice. She was banished by her stepmother and she wandered into a forest, where she met a monkey named Lutung Kasarung. They became friends and Lutung Kasarung helped Purbasari overcome his loneliness.

One day, Purbasari met a prince who fell in love with her singing. They quickly became lovers, but Purbasari's mother-in-law found out about their relationship and tried to kill her. Lutung Kasarung helped Purbasari escape, but in the process, he was killed by his mother-in-law.

Purbasari eventually became queen and had a statue in honor of Lutung Kasarung. The statue was imbued with magical powers and became a symbol of protection and prosperity for the inhabitants of the kingdom.

The importance of this story in Indonesian culture lied in the fact that it depicted the power of friendship, loyalty and love. It also emphasized the importance of standing up against injustice and oppression. The story had been passed down from generation to generation in Sundanese culture and continued to be a beloved part of Indonesian folklore.
